Physiotherapy in Mexico

Our physiotherapy volunteers work in two hospitals and an emergency clinic in Guadalajara. You will be allocated to the hospital that best fits your experience and objectives.

Most of the physiotherapy participants work at one of the largest hospitals in Latin America. Each floor of this multi storey building specializes in different medical fields which include oncology, intensive care, terminal illnesses, internal medicine, intensive therapy, accident and emergency and more.

This a large, busy, government funded hospital provides care for those unable to afford private medical insurance and as part of the Cruz Verde network, the hospital also has a busy A & E department and is a base for the local ambulance service.

You will be working under one of the most qualified and experienced physiotherapists in Mexico who will meet with you at the beginning of the placement to discuss your background and interests. She will then arrange a rough programme for you but this will be very much at the mercy of the cases coming into the hospital so please remain flexible.

We have chosen this busy hospital because it will give you the opportunity to experience a varied amount of cases, from patients recovering from tauma or fractures, cancer patients following major surgery and those recovering from cardiac illnesses.

Although all our projects in Mexico include a basic Spanish course, it is useful if you have at least some basic Spanish before joining the medical project in Mexico. If you have no Spanish or are not confident that your Spanish is quite up to scratch we would recommend combining programmes and joining a teaching or orphanage project first. Alternatively, we are happy to recommend a good 1 week Spanish course.
