Journalism placements in Tanzania

The journalism projects in Tanzania are well suited to those looking to gain broadcast media experience in TV, radio or both.

You'll be working with a major broadcaster in Dar es Salaam that produces numerous TV channels and radio stations. Most of the the major channels and stations broadcast are Swahili for most of the time but do run English language programmes throughout the day. You can elect to work with these channels or on their new International satellite TV channel or radio station that is broadcast to the global market in English.

If you're interested in working in TV, opportunities exist to get experience in production behind the camera, work as a broadcast journalist and also very limited opportunities to work in front of the camera. The types of programmes produced are incredibly varied and range from news, sport, women's and children's programmes.

Those interested in radio media will work on the international radio station that broadcasts in English. As this is a new station, there are opportunities here to make a real impact. In addition to working as a broadcast assistant or one of the many other production roles at the station, you'll be actively encouraged to try your hand at presenting programmes too!

You can elect to spend all of your time in an area of broadcast media that really suits you or try your hand at several different aspects of TV and radio production. In addition spending time in Dar es Salaam, opportunities also exist to spend time on secondment at one of the other offices in Tanzania, such as Arusha, Tanga, Dodoma or even Zanzibar.

Your main base will be Dar es Salaam and your working hours from 9am to 5pm Mondays to Fridays. However, due to the fast paced nature of media work, you may find yourself working outside these hours to hit a deadline or cover a breaking news event.
